FAQ

Doesn't the Catholic Church consider this wrong?
Yes, they do but they also have a history of shaming women and denying the history of women popes. Not to mention the history of corruption and current covering up of pedophilia. I don't see the church as the only and absolute correct source because of church history. At the same time, I know it is not only the Catholic Church that has had problems. It is pretty much impossible to find a religion that has not had a troubled path.

Religion should not be so strict. This poem by Emily Dickinson influenced a lot of my views on church and religion:

Some keep the Sabbath going to Church –
I keep it, staying at Home –
With a Bobolink for a Chorister –
And an Orchard, for a Dome –

Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice –
I, just wear my Wings –
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sexton – sings.

God preaches, a noted Clergyman –
And the sermon is never long,
So instead of getting to Heaven, at last –
I’m going, all along.

What is Collyridianism/Mary Worship/Marianism?
All three phrases are somewhat similar. Collyridianism refers to the ancient worship of Mary. Back when Christianity was a new faith and the Church was just gaining power in Rome, there was a group of people who practiced the worship of the Virgin Mary as a goddess. They were recorded giving Mary offerings similar to how pagans back then gave offerings to their gods. This practice was destroyed by the church.

Mary Worship is a term that refers to anyone who worships Mary. It is also not approved by the Catholic Church because they say Mary should not be worshiped, just venerated as a saint and the mother of Jesus. It is also used as an insult against Catholics.

Marianism refers to the veneration of Mary and is a word that can be used by Catholics.

Are You Catholic?
I was raised catholic but I no longer consider myself to be one.
